Chocolate Samosa

चॉकलेट समोसा

Chocolate Samosa is the playful, viral dessert innovation that caused a collective double-take across India — the most iconic Indian savoury snack, transformed into a dessert by stuffing the classic crispy pastry shell with rich, molten chocolate, banana, and sometimes Nutella or crushed biscuits. It made waves on social media, became a staple at dessert stalls and bakeries, and introduced an entire generation to the idea that samosa pastry (essentially a neutral, crispy, flaky vehicle) can carry sweet fillings just as well as spiced potato. The contrast between the warm, crispy pastry and the molten chocolate interior — served dusted with icing sugar and drizzled with more chocolate — is genuinely delicious.

Method

  1. Make pastry dough: Rub oil into flour to breadcrumb consistency. Add cold water and knead into firm, smooth dough. Rest 15 minutes. Make filling: Combine chopped dark chocolate, Nutella, and banana slices. Keep chilled — cold filling is easier to handle and prevents leaking.

    About 15 min

Tip: Chilling the chocolate filling makes it easier to place inside the samosa and prevents it from spreading during shaping.

  2. Shape samosas: Divide dough into 6 equal balls. Roll into thin ovals, cut in half. Form cone shapes and seal the straight edge with a water paste. Place 2 tbsp chocolate filling inside with 2–3 banana slices. Seal the top edge firmly — press and crimp well. Freeze for 15 minutes.

    About 10 min

Tip: Freeze before frying to prevent chocolate from liquefying and leaking during the early stages of frying.

  3. Deep-fry at 160°C for 6–8 minutes until crispy and golden. Do not fry on very high heat or the outside will burn before the filling is hot. Drain briefly. Dust with powdered sugar. Drizzle with melted chocolate or Nutella. Serve immediately while the chocolate inside is still molten.

    About 8 min

Tip: Serve within 2 minutes — the molten chocolate begins to solidify quickly as the samosa cools.
